Embedded Software Engineer
Plaster Networks (PLN) is searching for an outstanding embedded software engineer to assist in the development of a new, innovative home networking solution. The developer will be a key member of a small, close-knit start up team and will own the architecture, design, and implementation of embedded software that is a critical component of the company's powerline network solution. As part of this challenging assignment, the developer will have a lead role in the growth and success of the company.
PLN develops industry-leading equipment and services that enable cost-effective, high-speed local area networking in home and small office environments using the existing electric wiring (please visit www.plasternetworks.com). We are a small, well-funded start-up company founded by a recognized leader in network technology. Our offices are located off Willow Road near Bayfront Expressway in Menlo Park.

Time Commitment: Full time.
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Location: Menlo Park, California (on site)
Essential Duties and Functions
Architect, design, and develop embedded software application based on market requirements for home powerline networking solution:
- Write engineering functional, system architecture, and component design specifications
- Hands-on coding in C on the uClinux operating system
- Design and write test cases
- Debug and test software code
- Create (or supervise creation) of documentation
- Collaborate closely with other members of the technical team
Prerequisites
- Minimum two years embedded software development experience with a solid understanding of principles and design tradeoffs for embedded systems
- Very thorough understanding of layer 2 networking concepts and practice, with experience in network traffic debugging
- Minimum one year experience coding in C on uClinux or a similar variant of the Linux OS
- Aptitude for creating infrastructure and processes to support a growing software development organization
- Practical problem-solving skills and ability to find appropriate solutions
- Track record of delivering projects on schedule and to specification
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent field of study highly preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Experience working on an IT helpdesk or technical support call center a plus
- Works well in a small start up environment with close-knit team
- Proven ability to work independently with little supervision
- Eager to join a hard-working team of professionals to contribute to building a successful company
The ideal candidate will have experience developing embedded software for consumer networking products such as routers, firewalls, wireless access points, powerline adapters, or other similar devices.
